The 2009 Spring Goodwill Bergner’s Sale may have ended on March 24th, but the long term benefits of the event will help central Illinois communities and job seekers for months to come. That’s because the proceeds earned from the sale of the donations to Goodwill will ultimately provide free job training and other services to help people find work.
Shoppers donated 55,600 pounds of clothing and textiles at area Bergner’s stores in return for 20 percent discount coupons. A total of 20,000 coupons were distributed over the two-week period. People who donated items directly to Goodwill also received the coupons during the semi-annual sale.
“This is a very generous partnership that benefits everyone involved. People think we just sell used clothing, but that is not the case. The revenue we earn supports our free job training and life skills classes, as well as other programs such as our veterans’ home,” noted Jodi Sullivan, Director of Merchandise Development. Sullivan helps organize the area Goodwill Bergner’s sale for the nonprofit agency. “People 16 and older who want to work, but don’t have the ability to find a job should call us,” she added.
The next sale is scheduled for the fall. Information on Goodwill ‘s upcoming set of classes and other services available at 309-682-1113 or by visiting the website at goodwillpeo.org.
