Goodwill offers a variety of classes taught at our learning centers in Galesburg, Pekin, and Peoria. We can help you get job ready, learn computer skills, train you to operate a forklift or strengthen skills you use in everyday life. Class descriptions are listed below and class schedules are listed at the right.
SPECIAL NOTE: Class schedules for 2012 (right-hand column) are currently being finalized. The completed schedules will be uploaded in the near future.
Job Preparation Classes
> Computer Basics 3 weeks
Designed for individuals just getting started with a computer, this three week course teaches basic operations of a computer. Week one will teach parts of a computer, keyboard and mouse basics, and touch typing. Week two will focus on internet, website basics, email basics, and typing skills. Week three will introduce Microsoft Word, how to create and save a document, copy and paste techniques, files and organization.
> Computer Skills 8 weeks
A more intensive class to learn Windows XP, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, the Internet and e-mail. Job readiness skills will also be covered. Computer Basics or equivalent skills are required prior to taking this class.
> Forklift Training 2 days
How to safely and correctly operate a forklift is taught in two days - one in the classroom and one on the equipment - at Goodwill's War Memorial location. The course is designed to meet OSHA standards and requires a test to complete the course. Job readiness is included in this class.
> The Power of Work 6 weeks
The Power of Work is a new approach to job readiness, delivering intensive training for those who need additional skills to secure employment in today's work environment. Local employers, business leaders and other professionals participate in workshops, offer training in their areas of expertise and some employers may hire participants at the completion of the program, with Goodwill following up to ensure success. This three-week training takes place both at Goodwill and at local businesses, with participants required to observe at work sites two hours per week to gain knowledge in their field of interest. Areas covered during the training include:

- Soft skills
- Conflict resolution
- Stress & anger management
- Career development
(Note: Currently, The Power of Work is only taught as a part of Forklift Training.)
How to Apply
- Contact the Goodwill Learning Center nearest you to find out when pre-registration is held.
- You will be assigned a time and place to register. You must attend this registration session.

At pre-registration, you will fill out forms and have time to talk to a Goodwill planner to select
courses you need. - All applicants must be approved by the Admissions Committee before participating in any program.
- We'll contact you to confirm a time, date, and location for your class.
