Vocational Services

Business Workforce and Computer Training

Business Workforce and Computer Training is a five week training course taught for six college credit hours by an Illinois Central College instructor. This intensive course encompasses Microsoft Office, inlcluding Word, Excel, and Powerpoint and increases employability. In addition, participants compile a working resume, perform mock interviews, answer situational questions, conduct a job search, and produce and present a final project.

Employment Services

Participants are assigned a case manager who assists them in preparing a cover letter, resume and all other applicable materials for job searching. These individuals work together to learn how to have a successful interview to eliminate any barriers that may hinder an employee's performance. Once employment is secured, Goodwill offers a 90-day retention and incentive program.

Forklift Training

Our forklift training is a great way to learn a new, marketable skill. Throughout the one day session participants will learn about the different types of forklifts, safety standards, driving rules, ways to prevent accidents and proper maintenance of the machine. These training sessions are held on-site at Goodwill Industries on War Memorial Drive. The training encompasses both classroom instruction and hands-on driving. After proper instruction, students will take both a written and driving test. Upon successful completion of the course, participants will receive a Certificate of Completion to add to his or her portfolio to take to a job interview. Participants will also receive a pocket sized certificate as proof of completion of the training.

Case Manangers refer individuals to agencies that provide services not offered by Goodwill.


Residential Services

Goodwill's Home for Veterans provides a holistic rehabilitation environment for disabled, homeless veterans and assists them in achieving self-sufficiency. Our permanent, supportive facility is treatment-oriented and provides each resident access to case management and intensive counseling sessions on-site. The program provides residents a physically and psychologically safe enviroment that promotes growth and development while maximizing individual strengths, dignity and choices.

Self-Directed Job Search

Self-Directed Job Search engages participants in an aggressive job search in order to obtain employment within a 30 to 120 day time frame. Participants work to identify and remove as many barriers to employment as possible. Topics covered include: career assessment, identifying sources of jobs, developing a personal network, filling out a master application, dress for success presentation, using the internet to search for jobs, how to initiate informational interviews with employers, developing an effective resume and cover letter, interviewing techniques, job search follow-up practices, job retention and what employers look for in an applicant.

Workshops at Workforce Network

Workshops are held Thursday afternoons from 1:30pm - 3:00pm.

1st Thursday of the month Illinois Worknet - focuses on the basics of using the Illinois Worknet website to learn more about different career opportunities.

2nd Thursday of the month Job Readiness - informs participants of the proper ways to conduct a job search and interviews.

3rd Thursday of the month Interpersonal Skills - educates participants about alternative ways to communicate in a work setting.
