Goodwill Veterans' Stand Down Event

Time to rest and recover.

In military terms, a “Stand Down” is a break from combat when soldiers can get new clothes, eat a hot meal, rest and relax. As part of our Homeless Veterans’ Re-entry Program—which provides job training, computer skills and resume advice—we held our first annual Stand Down at Peoria’s O’Brien Field in October, 2009. Since it’s inception, hundreds of homeless veterans have taken advantage of the full-day event, receiving everything from free meals, showers, haircuts and winter clothing to health screenings, VA and Social Security benefits counseling, and housing and employment referrals.

The Goodwill Veterans' Stand Down Event is held annually during the month of October. Please connect with us on Facebook to receive updates.
