Goodwill Receives Grant from The Walmart Foundation
Peoria, IL – January 30, 2017 – The Walmart Foundation has awarded three Central Illinois organizations with grants totaling $280,000. All grants were been made possible through the Foundation’s State Giving Program.
Among the recipients was Goodwill Industries of Central Illinois, which was awarded a $30,000 grant. The non-profit will use the funds to support veterans by removing barriers to employment. This means supplying them with the resources they need to achieve the benefi
ts and dignity that come with a job.
Specifically, Goodwill offers individualized employment plans. Veterans are taught computer skills, skills in dealing with people, resume writing techniques and have access to an OSHA certified forklift operation program. In addition, they receive job search assistance and counseling as well as have access to hiring events and job fairs.
“It is so important to support these men and women who have given so much for our country,” said Don Johnson, Goodwill of Central Illinois’ President & CEO. “We are very grateful to Walmart for their contribution to the ongoing support of our veterans.”
Goodwill is supported by the sale of donated goods throughout its 11 stores. Goodwill Industries of Central Illinois serves 21 counties within Central Illinois. More information can be found at www.goodwillpeo.org.
