More than Just a Thrift Store
Goodwill is not what you may think. We are not just a thrift store, donation center, or community outreach non-profit. We are all of that and more. Your local Macomb, IL Goodwill store uses a portion of profits generated from sales and puts that money back into the community through outreach programs! Everything you purchase at Goodwill, from clothes to books to table lamps, funds our programs. We provide job training, veterans’ services, and skills classes that many people would not otherwise be able to find. That’s the mission of Goodwill Industries of Central Illinois.
The Power of Your Purchase
Chances are you’ve been to a Goodwill, whether it’s in Macomb or another one of our Central Illinois locations. If so, you know that we’re more than just a place for clothing. Every Goodwill store has a wide selection of furniture, housewares, appliances, books, movies, music, toys, recreational items, and more! And the purchases you make fund our community support programs.
- Veterans’ Services – Goodwill helps provide living and medical assistance, job training, and a reliable support network to veterans in Central Illinois, so they can successfully reintegrate into society. Information on the General Wayne A. Downing Home for Veterans, as well as our other veterans’ programs can be found on our website.
- Job Skills Training – In our eClasses and Employment Services Centers, people can learn how to properly write a resume, prepare for interviews, fill out applications, and even receive hands-on forklift training! Goodwill also accepts applications for our own stores. Goodwill even offers classes to help people in their life outside of the workplace, in such subjects as time management and conflict resolution. - Youth Services – One of the most important parts of community outreach is helping local youths. Goodwill’s youth services include the “GoodGuides” youth mentoring program, career seminars and workshops to give teens hands-on work experience, and classroom career training!
